Wasatch Charter School, UT is seeking a full-time Eurythmy teacher

Wasatch Charter School is seeking a full-time Eurythmy teacher with an accredited diploma recognized by the Goetheanum, Switzerland to work with students from kindergarten to eighth grade.  We are also open to exploring the possibility of having eurythmy teachers for 6-8 week blocks throughout the year in order to ensure the continuity of the eurythmy program.

Nestled in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley with breath-taking views of Mount Olympus and unparalleled access to outdoor recreation, including skiing in the mountains and hiking in the desert, Wasatch is a growing Waldorf and anthroposophical community.  In our seventh year of operations, we are a public charter school committed to bringing the fullness of Waldorf education to life in a public setting accessible to all students.  We serve 700 students from preschool through eighth grade with robust programs.  Nearly all class teachers are fully certified Waldorf teachers or actively enrolled in training; specialty programs are strong with trained, full-time, consistent teachers in gardening and farming, handwork, music, and games, as well as part-time teachers in all of these subjects, in addition to woodworking, pottery, Spanish and folk dance.  Students are supported by a rich program that integrates curative education into interventions and special education services.  Teachers meet weekly in smaller teams and with the full faculty for child study, collaboration, sharing, study and professional development.  The work environment is collaborative, positive, and supportive for the faculty community. We also have an in-house speech artist who, along with working with classes, teachers and individual students, is available to speak for some eurythmy classes and to work artistically with the eurythmist.

We are looking for an individual who wants to build a rich Eurythmy program into our next seven years.  This would involve teaching approximately 16 hours a week, preparing students for a performance showcase annually and bringing Eurythmy to faculty gatherings and parent evenings.  It would also involve some committee work and other assignments within the school’s daily life.  Opportunities also exist for supporting workshops and teacher development courses in the summer, with additional compensation.

We have a beautiful, dedicated Eurythmy room with a live musician to accompany on both piano and harp and a trained speech artist to work with some of the middle grade classes.  Our former Eurythmy teacher is available to collaborate, mentor and share lesson plans with a new teacher. Future plans in the next 3 years involve hiring an additional Eurythmy teacher, welcoming back our former teacher on a part-time basis, as well as construction of an additional Eurythmy hall.

We are seeking a collaborative teacher who sees the therapeutic value of Eurythmy for a diverse group of modern students and wants to help build a rich program in our public school setting and growing school community.  We hope for an individual with experience and creativity in working with large groups of students and heart space for meeting children, colleagues and parents with warmth and openness.

We offer an annual salary of $45,000 – $60,000 based on experience (with built-in annual increases and a bump at year 5), a 401K into which the school will automatically contribute 5% of salary, and robust health and dental insurance with a low deductible and co-pay structure at no cost to an individual employee. We are able to start a salary prior to the typical beginning of the annual contract in order to help off-set any moving expenses.  We also annually offer support for personal and professional development.

If a full-time eurythmist is not found for the opening, Wasatch Charter School is also open to exploring the possibility of having teachers for 6-8 weeks blocks throughout the year in order to ensure the continuity of the eurythmy program.  Eurythmists with availability and interest to teach blocks can also reach out to explore the possibilities further.
More information about the school and images are available at wasatchwaldorf.org and on Instagram at wasatchwaldorf.

Interested candidates should email Emily Merchant at emerchant@wasatchwaldorf.org.  Ideally, arrangements would be made for a site visit and demonstration lesson prior to the end of May.
