Position Summary
Eurythmy is a central element of our curriculum, and our dedicated eurythmy spaces, including a specialized classroom, and recital hall, enable rich artistic exploration. Eurythmy is an expressive movement of harmonious body movements to the rhythm of the spoken word and music. SMWS has an outstanding faculty who foster a spirit of collaboration and innovation and are deeply committed to Waldorf pedagogy and anthroposophy. Our program includes eurythmy, games & movement, choir, guitar & orchestra, handwork, arts, woodwork, as well as Spanish and German.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach eurythmy to students across a wide range of grade levels, from early childhood through high school. The current schedule includes 2 x 40-minute periods in grades 1-8, 2 x 30-minute periods for combined grades 9/10, and 2 x 30-minute periods for combined grades 11/12, all within a 5-week block. Additionally, there are three early childhood groups, each having eurythmy once a week for 15 – 20 minutes
- Collaborate closely with class teachers to integrate eurythmy into the broader Waldorf curriculum, enhancing both the academic and artistic experiences of the students
- Foster a supportive, respectful, and creative classroom environment that encourages students to explore eurythmic movement, self-expression, and imagination
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate lessons that promote personal growth while strengthening the class community and interpersonal connections
- Actively participate in faculty meetings and committees, contributing to the development of the school’s artistic and academic programs, as well as initiatives related to social health and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
- Lead eurythmy sessions at in-service days and conferences, bridging the varied skills and knowledge of eurythmy within the faculty, helping to inspire and unify the community
- Prepare students for public performances, showcasing their growth and mastery of eurythmy, while building their confidence and sense of accomplishment
- Contribute to the vibrant festival life of the school by preparing student performances and working collaboratively with colleagues to develop meaningful, engaging events
- Contribute equitably to recess duties and substitution periods as needed, ensuring a well-balanced workload
- Educate parents about the significance and benefits of eurythmy through parent evenings and parent-teacher conferences, fostering a deeper understanding of this artistic practice within the broader school community
- Support class teachers in class plays and other performances upon request, integrating eurythmy as appropriate to enrich the experience
- Stay informed and current on trends, best practices, and new developments in both eurythmy and Waldorf education, engaging in ongoing professional growth
Additional Responsibilities
- In accordance with the SMWS philosophy, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in accordance with the duties listed above.
Education and Qualifications / Regulations
- Eurythmy training Certification recognized by the Goetheanum, Switzerland (required)
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Demonstrated success in teaching and engaging students of different ages in eurythmy
Work Setting
- Eurythmy room, Festival Hall, and holding outdoor festivals
- Occasional weekend and evening hours
Salary, Hours, and Benefits
SMWS offers a teaching base salary along with years of teaching experience; a comprehensive employee benefit program, professional development, and tuition remission for enrolled children.
- Full time salary position
- Waldorf-trained base salary of $46,217, along with years of experience.
- Faculty members are paid monthly with annual Agreements – July – June each year

- Faculty receive 3 personal days and 7 sick days each school year

- Walk, stand, run, sit, and extensive use of body limbs for designated periods of time
- Bend, stretch, squat, kneel, perform eurythmy movements
